Review - Roger Marshall & The Law - Hiding in the Wide Open
For
thirty years Roger Marshall has, in some form or another, tried to
make his mark in the country music genre. After recording the very
first version of "Achy Breaky Heart" he was diagnosed with cancer.
He wasn't expected to live but he proved everyone wrong and here he
is today releasing his debut album. His band has opened for the
likes of Loretta Lynn, Carl Perkin, and The Byrds which proves how
talented they are.
Title
track, "Hiding In The Wide Open," is about how close-minded people
might be missing out on the best thing for them, because they refuse
to open up to different situations. "Whose Money Do You Think This
Is" asks Roger in the next song. It seems like everyone is dipping
their hands into his pockets and he has nothing left over for his
own enjoyment. "My Heart Cries" has a beautiful piano intro before
Roger sings of feeling sad when he knows the lady he loves is
thinking of another man. Piano is also heard throughout "Satisfied
Mind."
Getting
dirty while working during the day is fine with Roger in "Good Clean
Fun," but when the sun goes down he wants to have a good time with
his special lady. "Son And The Stars" is a good song mentioning
faith along with the King of Rock and Roll. "I'm Tired" is my
favorite track. Roger sings about being tired of his wife wanting to
spend all of his money on things that he can't afford in the first
place. Meanwhile, he's breaking his back trying to earn a few
dollars.
